This show is a fresh take on the original series and focuses on sisters Mel and Maggie, played by Melonie Diaz and Sarah Jeffery, as they try to cope with the loss of their mother. Before they have a chance to heal, they're surprised to meet their long-lost sister Macy, a brilliant geneticist who their mother never mentioned. This is a big change for the girls and the stress starts to take its toll, leading to them developing strange new powers.

A university professor, who chairs the women's studies department, is the one who explains what's going on: Mel, Maggie, and Macy are magically gifted and he's their whitelighter, someone who guides and advises them as they deal with dark forces and supernatural threats, all while they support each other as a family.
